Swimming Lesson Sign-ups & Update

Many members have been asking about sign-ups for swimming lessons. Sign up will begin as soon as memberships are paid in full by all new and continuing members and when the calendar is modified (there has been some new development in the works which has caused some adjustment time). Paid members will be given priority to schedule lesson sessions for their children.

Sessions will begin the Monday after July 4th holiday weekend or on June 28 if you are enrolling in the Saturday only session.

We have had interest in swimming lessons for 3-4 year olds from members. The standard rule for lesson sign-ups at Briarwood, YMCA and other swim organizations is that children ages 4 and under must be able to touch the bottom on the shallow end of the pool (3 ft) in order to be enrolled. We will consider swimming lessons for other younger swimmers based on number and age and time availability to accommodate those interests. These classes are usually termed "Mommy (Daddy) and Me."

UPDATE - The work on the pool will continue into the holiday weekend with painting the gutters and other improvements. If can lend a hand, it would be appreciated over Saturday and Sunday.

The Pool will officially open for business on Saturday, June 14th for members based on weather and conditions. If you have questions, please email the Club at: briarwoodpool@yahoo.com
Thank you!

Update for Current Members

Information for the new 2008 season is being mailed out today to all members. The Day of Caring event will begin at 9am next Saturday, May 17th rather than 10am as previously noted in this blog. Please share flyer information in your packets with friends, neighbors, family and co-workers who might be interested in joining. Cost for new family members is $399 and for individuals $199.

Swimming lesson sign-ups will begin in June. You may register for lessons once your membership fee for the season has been received. Members will be given first priorities for placements. Town of Lockport and non-member sign-ups will be scheduled after the member period expires. Lesson time slots will only be added this year based on the rising enrollments if realized.

School field trips are being scheduled for the second and third weeks of June with local schools. We plan to be open on the weekends starting June 14th from 12 noon to 6pm depending on weather and attendance. Official opening will start on Monday, June 30th and continue through the summer.

Day of Caring - Saturday, May 17th

Annually, we seek the support of members and volunteers to clean up the facility and make ready for the summer season. We are asking members to support the annual clean up by scheduling some time on Saturday, May 17th from 10am to dark to help spuce up the place.

We need cleaners, landscapers, painters and general maintenance support. Contact a member of the Board for your availability...bring the kids too!

Briarwood Pool & Recreation Club Receives Non-Profit Entity Status!

The Briarwood Pool and Recreation Club has officially received 501-c-3 (non-profit) status from the U.S. Treasury Department as of April 4, 2008! With the work of the Board, the application was submitted in September and approved last month. This means that as an organization we are tax exempt and a chartiable organization that is able to take donations and raise funds we would not otherwise be eligible for (e.g., apply for grants, fund raise and be exempt from federal and other taxes).

This is a positive step forward for our organization and membership!
